Early designs of hydronic heating systems were often oversized and were controlled by restricting flow. They distributed heat effectively, but offered little or no capability for turndown of boilers and pumps. Modern boilers have high turndown ratios and can leverage variable flow capabilities to great advantage. Integrating high efficiency boilers with intelligent variable speed pumps, using VDC input, results in electricity savings and gas savings for big reductions in operating costs.
